Friendship Heights Vision Plan

How can land owners best coordinate to leverage a metro station and build a mixed-income community at the site of an auto-oriented commercial district? 

Land owners in Friendship Heights have formed a unique cross-jurisdictional alliance to create a vibrant new transit-oriented neighborhood.  Long ago designated as a development site of regional significance, Friendship Heights languished as a auto-oriented retail destination best characterized by parking lots.  A new development vision raises the bar and encourages the surrounding community and local jurisdictions to reposition Friendship Heights as an inclusive mixed-use community which is far greater than the sum of its parts. 

Services included stakeholder engagement, site analysis, urban planning, urban design.  Client: Friendship Heights Alliance, 2024-2025.  Collaborator: ZGF.
